on his own
A dear old Chinese woman gave me an antique gold men's ring. The ring belonged to her family. It shows a finely crafted dragon. This symbol brought to mind the last Chinese emperor Pu Yi. He was the only one allowed to show the dragon in clothing and jewellery. His life intrigued me: he was a survivor who constantly adapted to the sweeping changes of the empire of China. I have depicted the phases in his life as a photo story with screen prints on glass, 3-dimensional objects and with references to ancient Chinese symbols.
